In Australia we get this thing called Youth Allowance for Australian citizens. The more fucked you are (i.e live by yourself, have kids, single parents etc etc) the more money the giv gives you. I get about 200 dollaroos every two weeks from doing literally nothing but just studying IT (which most of which goes to my pocket because there's nothing I really need barring my concession travel card).

I'd probably get more if I rented my own dorm but I'm focusing on studying right now so I don't care.

And I don't know how it is in Canada, but our gov allows us to pay the degree's fee after we complete it over the course of several months. How's it like there?

If anything the leeches are those going into useless majors like women's studies or communications who end up sucking up government financial support to pay for a degree that will never pay itself off.

The immigrants here are almost exclusively in STEM fields and usually they come to this country as an accomplished family with assets and education.

My situation is even worse than OP's. My parents make six figures but they've gotten themselves into a huge mortgage with a big house which comes with exclusive utilities and property taxes. Because of this they spend all their monthly income just to get by and have no money to help me with living expenses or tuition.
