Why can't anybody agree on a pronounciation for this dumb

There is only one pronunciation for this letter, but anglos for some reason prefer to pronounce it like AR

Actually sometimes (and many other letters in various languages, including English) letters aren't even any sounds, rather they affect other sounds or form certain sounds depending on what letters are adjacent and what the word is.
