When you enter a normal board, you expect all threads to be fresh. You browse and look around. You can have it always open for new stuff. You can participate in most threads in some way.

When you enter a board of generals, you find exactly what you want and stick to it. You don't really browse it continuously. You participate in a small section of threads.

So when you have generals on a regular board, it's just dead weight that constantly steals position from other threads that will almost always be more interesting to you than a general that you already determined to not interest you.

Literally the only general where anything good happens is the Japanese general (god only knows why). The rest is a colossal waste of time.

Generals are literally a way of making this site something resembling Reddit. It's the same. exact. thing. every goddam thread, day in day out. Like an online version of the movie Groundhog Day.
The beauty of 4chan was that it was unpredictable. You never know what you're going to find, just by pressing F5. Every day it was something new and strange. Often it was shit, but just as often it was hilarious or at least intriguing. The only limit was the vague topic for each board. Unlike most subreddits, the moderation was loose and the focus erratic.
The bottom line is, generals put people on the site (and therefore more ad $$$) but they do so at the cost of what made this site fun. Believe it or not, 4chan wasn't always a NEET hikikomori circlejerk. Now its just Reddit with pictures and a better layout, and that kind of sucks.

I honestly think they do have a place here too, the ones people mentioned earlier like /cp/, /djt/ and /extraflags/ are fine here. People forget that the thing that always made /int/ unique was the specific climate. The fact that you could discuss about any international topic - history, politics, or culture - in friendly atmosphere, unlike on /pol/. Much like KC /int/./int/ isn't about generals, or bantz. /int/ is more than that. It's about humor, and the people. There are serious threads, there are funposting threads. But overally, the quality of discussion always remained on some good level. People sometimes called /int/ /b/ with flags, but it never came close to the atrocious mess that /bant/ is recently.

My point is: there is no point in /bant/ existing. Let /int / be /int/. Remove the generals, create /intg/ for them and allow wider variety of discussion, like we used to have it in the older days.
