I´ll assume your friend was in Guayaquil, where most of the black population live in poor and crime riddled zones of the city. This happens because black people are no abundant here,and most of them live in a quite poor province called Esmeraldas, and when they migrate to large cities like Guayaquil, they tend to settle (sometimes illegally) in poor parts of the city, and resort to crime. So what his grandma had was sort of a reflex, not entirely racist. In Guayaquil everyone is always alert because it used to be a very dangerous city, though now things have improved a lot.

About the soccer match: It´s simple, soccer fans are mostly unmannerd people, much more so in stadiums. Now, since our team is incompetent, and predominantly black, fans resort to racial slurs to denounce their bad playing, because they are obssesed with the sport and are also very rude
