Mexico City has one of the best infrastructure from Latin America while being pretty much the cheapest major capital, and by far. Sao Paulo, Panama City and Santiago de Chile have better infrastructure, for example, but they are at least twice as expensive. As for the public transport, you can reach everything within the city for just a quarter of a dollar in the subway, it doesn't matter the distance and time you spend inside, but it can be crowded as hell (Chinese tier crowded) at certain hours and directions. There are different kinds of busses (Metrobus, RTP, microbus, trolebus, etc), that all have different prizes depending on distance, but they all are around a quarter of a dollar as well. Both the metro system and busses have exclusive places for women, to prevent harassment and the like.

Narcos are really rare in the city. They operate in it, but the war hasn't been fought whithin, so you would never see the violence you hear about in the news there. That is not to say the City is perfectly safe (it is far from being the safest in the country, in fact), but, its crime levels are comparable to L.A. and thieves, etc. are mostly restricted to certain areas even locals tend to avoid unless they happen to live there.

Mexicado from Juarez here (yeah, the one on the news from like 5 years ago).

Pretty much everything is just now budding due to the crisis we had some years ago. It stunted our growth but the city is catching up (even if there are threats the narcos are coming back).

Old/historic buildings aren't treated so well but there seems to be a slight change. New buildings are all very cool and nice to look at/visit.

Roads are a fucking mess, though. Lots of bad design and bumps here.

FUN FACT: Taxists here in the country were fucking pissed when Uber came into the country. There's still a Uber vs. Taxi feud in Juarez, though taxists don't chimp out at Uber drivers on sight anymore.

Sometimes. Things aren't as bad as they were back in 2010. Some murders/shootings happen every now and then in remote areas of the city, same thing with gang violence.

In Juarez it really depends, but I'd say probably not. Some areas are safer than others, but any dark street/alleyway, regardless of the nice state of its neighborhood, is a recipe for disaster.

CDMX is pretty safe at night, though. At least in the touristic area (the nicer areas of Reforma/Insurgentes and surrounding neighborhoods). I went there recently, me and my parents had no issue walking alone through a dark street. Still be cautious, though.

Same thing happened here. Taxi drivers controled/control certain popular spots in the city (airport, bus terminal, malls, etc.), so Ubers were afraid of dropping off people there. At one point Ubers were urging people to pretend they were family so taxists wouldn't chimp out and attack.

Cuando fui a CDMX recientemente la mayoría de las personas eran como que groseras, apatéticas. Ahí no se da la costumbre de saludar a extraños o cosas similares. We have two metro stations and we're building a third one
Most public transport is with buses, the most common ones cost $7 (like 1/3 dollar) but there's also nicer ones with A/C and comfier seats that cost $11 I think
You can get to any part of town with 1 or 2 buses

A few friends of mine told me a Mexican girl at work likes me, and I am trying to learn Spanish so I can talk to her. Even if I turn out to be too much of a sperg for her or something, at least I will be able to talk to my friends easier. I've wanted to for a long time, but I don't have many opportunities to practice outside of work, and at work I don't really have the time or drive to talk because while I am in go mode, I just work, and I am usually stationed alone or with ingles speakers. Can I have some recommendations for conversation ideas that I could use for a study guide? I mostly use an app called DuoLingo, and a dictionary I bought, with a bit of youtube now and then. I also started watching Netflix with Spanish subtitles. Even shitposts are welcome I guess.

I was already learning for my friends Rafael and Ediburto, that latter of whome is bilingual, but Rafa only speaks Spanish, and we ask each other for help with words sometimes whne we get to work together. He is my most cherished friend and my mentor. I've been doing it since I started working at my company and long before I ever considered the prospects of engaging in a romantic relationship with another coworker, much less one that would require overcoming a language barrier. The three people who told me about it were either bilingual or only spoke Spanish, and when a bilingual supervisor named Joel sat me down and explained it to me, I realized I was kind of being a dick for not trying harder for him sooner. I already said I don't care how it works out with her, I want to pay back my friend.
