it will certainly be powerful (at least economically moreso than the us) but it seems the near future will favour regional powers rather than the primacy of one single country

would be interesting to see if china reforms in the 2030s/2040s when the current generation of youth start taking power though

india and possibly indonesia will provide counterweight to china's rise in asia and they'll battle out for influence.

In 20 years china will be a superpower equal to the united states with an influence sphere of it's own barring nuclear war and end of the world. it'll be an accepted fact and there's nothing anyone can do to stop it.

Europeans introduced firearms to East Asia as well as a whole bunch of crops from the New World. The Chinese had a kind of hand cannon in the Sung period but the firearm as we know it today was a European invention. Later on, starting in the 19th century, they adopted Western clothing, technology, and governmental systems.

None of that matters. Population, industry, economics and military power are the only relevant factors when it comes to determining what is and isn't a superpower. In 1500's it was the spaniards thanks to colonialism and in 2000's it'll be china and america. Because those 4 things.

Actually, the four things a superpower requires are economic, military, cultural, and diplomatic strength. The Soviet Union had only two of those four things, making it an ersatz superpower. Japan in the 1980s was considered a menace to US and European industry, but economics was their only strong point. Germany today has economic and cultural strength, but no military or diplomatic pull.

China has some economic strength, but they can't really innovate anything, just copy others. Some military strength but the PLA's effectiveness in a real war is questionable. Cultural? LOLno. They got nothing. Diplomatic? China has no influence outside East Asia.
