I recently came across a small fortune of a couple million dollars
Would it be plausible to buy a farm. In rural japan and somehow make money off it? I mean I probably wouldnt need more money, but a steady income is always good

there's this Dutch guy who live in rural Japan making traditional japanese paper for a living. There's a scene where the local rural folks say they forgot that he was gaijin after a few years.

Farming is a soul destroying money hole unless you can get your hands on vast amounts of land and have the resources to make use of it.
A couple million dollars will hardly be enough to make that happen, and you won't see a return on your investments for a very long time if ever.
That's just what I've seen around me in my village though, the only people who still do it here are those who are too invested to get out.
Everyone else has either given up and fled to the cities, or just stick around waiting to die like me.
If you truly and desperately need to do this to yourself, do so in a third world country with lax labour laws where you can exploit the shit out of the people working for you.
But since you clearly have no idea what you're getting yourself into I would suggest spending it on hookers and blow so you can at least get some enjoyment out of it.
Serious response.
Buy land out west, Wyoming or Montana. A couple million will get you a very nice estate that will be worth a big fortune someday.
If I were buying real estate anywhere in the world, I'd by a small house on the Irish coast.

I don't think that would be a good way to spend your money. You won't get a steady income unless you produce something there from which you can rely on an income. The farm itself will be a sinking hole for your money.
