Sweden:
>According to early modern legend, the 12th-century King Eric IX saw a golden cross in the sky as he landed in Finland during the First Swedish Crusade in 1157. Seeing this as a sign from God he adopted the golden cross against a blue background as his banner.
Finland:
>Our cross iz blu lol
>When Charles III became King of Spain, he observed that most of the countries in Europe used flags which were predominantly white and, since they were frequently at war with each other, lamentable confusions occurred at sea, it being difficult to determine if a sighted ship were enemy until practically the last moment. For this reason, he ordered to his Minister of the Navy to present several models of flags to him, having to be visible from great distances. The Minister selected twelve sketches which were shown to the king. The flag that was chosen as war ensign is the direct ancestor of the current flag.

Looks good though. The cross design shows the country is Nordic, and the colours presumably have a number of symbolic interpretations.

>super special snowflake flag
come on spaniards
one of our first flags was a white background with a black eagle, then it turned into a red background with a golden lion with an axe in the 1300s and after the union, we decided to use a nordic cross like sweden and denmark had
>tfw our flag could have been a red cross with a black background

He probably saw the sun rays and just saw what he wanted to see.
>öhhh I look up in the sky
>look cross
>no that is the sun
>it's cross
>that is now our flag
>>74138092
Just like God "gave" the Danes their flag instead of them stealing it from Estonians (which we all just copied later).
At least our colors are based on something tangible and thoughtful instead of random colors thrown on top off a stolen legend.
>>74138894
could've been worse, at least it's not a generic red, blue and white tricolor flag
>>74138579
that sounds ridiculous
>>74138860
