>twf native in Russian and know Polish a bit

Also Belarussian is very underrated. It's de facto, a Russian 2.0 which even has a nice latin alphabet.
>>
>>74115644
Might be hard for you to determine, but which is more difficult, Polish or Russian?
>>
>>74115340
In big cities Russian is the same in Russian.
Ukrainians and belarussians have a different accent in their Russian, especially Ukrainians.
Far East/Syberian Russian has accent too, but a lot weaker.
Ukrainian and Belarusian languages are different a bit, and it's better to know Polish to understand them.
Polish sounds like an ancient and more brutal Ukrainian.
You can understand it only if you know a basics.
>>
>>74115796
Polish is harder in grammar, but in Russian you have working a lot on pronunciation if you wanna be fluent.

Some post-soviet people still has a perfect Russian, even if they are non-slavs.

Example (subs are aviable):
https://youtu.be/Wnfo2WQdc8g

It seems that he (the left guy, singer) isn't native, but his pronunciation is just perfect, so I'm even not sure and won't surprise if he is.

>>74115996
*The RIGHT guy

Also, he is speaking Turkish

https://youtu.be/093s4htI7_I

It's just insane, it seems he can speak four languages include the native one
>>
>>74115996
>Polish is harder in grammar,
I'd disagree. Even though Russian endings are generally more predictable, you still have to deal with stress varying in different forms of one word, which can't be a problem in Polish for the obvious reason.
>>
>>74115796
Both are equally difficult, Polish has one case more (the vocative case) and several more verb inflections (like eg. Russians don't differentiate genders of past plural verbs, while we do it, since "they stood" in Russian is "oni/one stali", while in Polish it's "oni stali" vs "one stały". On the other hand Russian has moving accent and sometimes it changes meaning of words, eg. "muka" may mean "flour" or "torment" depending on which vowel is accented in this word. Also reading is harder in Russian because unstressed "o" becomes almost like "a" - you write "moloko", but you read it like "malako".
>>
>>74106851
4 of those are the same language :^)

>>74117416
Isn't there different dialects in Serbo-Croatian though? If they're different enough I guess you could call it a language. Like how Belarusian is considered separate from Russian.
I may just be talking out of my ass though. My knowledge of Slav languages is just a handful of Russian words and insults.

As far as I know, Bulgarian became pretty distant, some grammatical features you have are really surprising, like articles or that strange verb mood when you refer something you didn't see by yourself (I guess it's called imperceptivus in Latin). I guess it may have something to do with your long native literary tradition, eg. our first authors wrote in Latin and we started using written Polish much later.
>>
>>74130656
That's interesting, so you have 7 distinct dialects? That's quite an achievemet considering your small population. Maybe it's caused by mountains separating various regions of your country? I'm not sure.

>all Slavic languages are at least 70% mutually intelligible
You probably speak some Russian or Czech and understading other Slavs seems easy to you, but you really overestimate this "natural" mutual intelligibility. In my case only actively learning Russian "unlocked" some other Slavic languages, but still only passively, I mean that now I'm able to read or watch news in Ukrainian/Belarusian, but it's still impossible for me to actively use them. I've also tried to read some boooks in Czech and in Sero-Croatian and it's still a pain in the ass for me, I can understand something, but it's really exhausting.
>>
>>74132922
No, I'm 100% Polack (maybe with some germanic heritage, but not sure), and I don't browse /b/
Translate my nick, then you'll understand

I think you heard about Sapkowski's "Witcher" ("Wiedźmin") and you want something more. Saddly, he's the best polish fantasy writter and there's no doubt about it. Pretty cool is book serie named "Kroniki Jakuba Wędrowycza" (it can be translated as "Chronicles of Jacob the Wanderer) by Andrzej Pilipiuk.

If you ask me about sci-fi, the best writter is Lem, I especially like his "Solaris", but he written many more interesting books, like "Powrót z Gwiazd" ("Return from the Stars") or "Opowieści o pilocie Pirxie" ("Tales of Pirx the Pilot")

Wtf, now I found out that I really don't read many polish books, I rather prefer anglos books.
Probably because people in Poland usually don't read books, so why they would write them? And if they do, their books mainky suck.
Also, if you like comedy dramats, I recommend you "Zemsta" ("Revenge"), it's old, but still I found it pretty funny.
>>
>>74134481
Lmao, nearly every Polack can understand written Czech, it sound just like retarded Polish, the same with Slovak;
Serbo-Croatian is pretty similar to Polish to, but there would be some problems in understanding;
Only eastern slavic languages are hard to understand, and although you could handle basic communication (Kali jeść, Kali pić), you can't make real conversation with Russky; but it's relatively easy to get along with it and after just few months of learning you'll be able to do some everyday convesration and start living in """comfy""" Russia; I told that in the case of Russian, cause I don't know Ukrainian nor Belarussian

>Can you give me any good polish dark fantasy books thet only polaks know ??
Generally speaking we don't have too much fantasy here, our authors mostly write sci-fi, the best of them are Stanisław Lem, Janusz Zajdel and Jacek Dukaj, imho, but it's all very serious "philosophical" sci-fi. There is some "lighter" stuff, but I wouldn't recommend it. One of those authors - Dukaj - wrote some fantasy, but I'm not sure if it's translated into Russian and it's still more serious that entertaining:
>The universe of the book is similar to ours with one major exception: instead of laws of physics as known to us, the universe is ruled by Aristotle's metaphysics, and to a lesser extent by Hegelian philosophy. There are no atoms or other particles, just five elements. All Matter is composed of those five elements, mixed in proportions determined by the Form. Every Substance is fulfilling its ideal Form, morphe, which "exists" separately from the Matter, hile, but appears only in Substance. There's no evolution in nature. Nature is teleological and has a purpose. The Sun and all the planets are circling Earth, and they move not in vacuum but in aether. Diseases are the signs of mind's insanity, the weakness of Form.

Of course, there is Sapkowski, I mean not only his Witcher, but also his "low fantasy" about the Hussite Wars:

If you read comic books, there is one top tier dark fantasy series made by a Polish-Belgian team:

They also made other dark fantasy comics.
