tldr is there were two on the ballot, the better one got fucked over by classic souther corruption


one was medical in the traditional sense [prop 6] (how other states have done it) and the other was very friendly to homegrowing [prop 7]

both passed their petitions, but when the vote was about to pass there was a sudden "review" and roughly 4000 signatures were voided on prop 7, and suddenly it was like 2200 short of what it needed to be on the ballot

the reason this happened was because a lot of liquor store owners have a lot riding on getting into the dispensary business and they wanted to make it more difficult to grow your own so you have to buy from them, so they put a lot of money into some folk's coffers (the fuckers that run lake liquor in maumelle donated $700k to an anti pot organization that petitioned for a recount of the prop 7 petition)

As much as I love history, I'm not particularly frustrated by this trend. I know my hometown has one but there doesn't seem to be any plans to dismantle it soon since it mostly honors those who volunteered in the Confederate Army instead of glorifying the shitty leadership.
