Post food from your country that the residents love but foreigners think is disgusting

Pic related. Kroket, it's deep fried and filled with ragout. Never met any foreigner liking this. An american explained the food as 'wet meat' and it made him throw up.

"Balut is a fertilized bird egg (usually a duck) that is incubated for 14 to 21 days, boiled or steamed, and the contents eaten direct from the shell. In balut that has been incubated for longer periods, the embryo is well developed and the features of a baby duck are recognisable. The partially-developed embryo bones are soft enough to chew and swallow as a whole. The mallard duck (Anas platyrhynchus), also known as the "Pateros duck", is considered to be the most important breed for egg production to make balut."

>Lablabi or Lablebi (لبلابي) is a Tunisian dish based on chick peas in a thin garlic and cumin-flavoured soup, served over small pieces of stale crusty bread. It is commonly eaten in inexpensive restaurants. Raw or soft-cooked egg is nearly always added to the hot soup mix (thus cooking), along with olive oil, harissa, additional cumin, capers, tuna and sometimes olives, garlic and vinegar or lemon or lime juice. Further garnishes may include cilantro, parsley and scallions. A traditional, but rarer, version, hergma is made with cows' trotters.

Most of our stuff is simple and hearty so its quite rare for people not to like it, usually just some pastry/meat/potato/vegetable combo:

Sausage rolls, shepherd's pie, cornish pasties, lancashire hotpot, fish and chips, beef wellington, yorkshire Pudding/"toad in the hole" , cumberland sausages, chip butties , English Breakfast, etc..

the sweet stuff is pretty normal too:
Scones, english muffins, crumpets, victoria sponge etc..

However I think the one thing most foreigners just dont understand is our baked beans , they all seem amazed by the tomato sauce element of it

No, it's fried pig skin on a sort of polenta (not quite, but close) made out of buckwheat rather than maize. It has nothing to do with Turkey or even the Balkans.

The pig skin is called cracklings, not quarks, my bad.

I really can't think of any. You'd normally say typical shit like snails or frog's legs, but I've never met someone who actually tried them but disliked them.

I suppose maybe some of our cheeses wouldn't be to everyon's taste.

>>73847401
yeah its pretty gross, but fun to eat in small amounts.

tastes really fishy, but then the after taste is i guess like lye? never eaten lye before so thats a guess. its like a chemical, makes me think of battery acid even though ive never tasted that either.

the texture is the worst part

I'm in Seattle and we have a lot of Nordics here but the culture didn't really take hold the same way it did in Minnesota. I'm told that public gatherings that include lutefisk have been known to happen here around the holidays but I've never been.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butyric_acid

>Butyric acid is found in milk, especially goat, sheep and buffalo milk, butter, parmesan cheese, and as a product of anaerobic fermentation (including in the colon and as body odor).

> Butyric acid is present in, and is the main distinctive smell of, human vomit.[10] It has an unpleasant smell and acrid taste, with a sweetish aftertaste similar to ether.

Pic related, hematogen. Basically you take cow's blood, process it and use to make a chocolate bar. The Swiss invented it apparently, but the Soviets loved the concept for some reason and started producing it on a really wide scale.
Doesn't taste like blood at all to me though, but it often does to others and that's why many people hate it. Anyway it's mostly limited to pharmacies, so you shouldn't think of it as Russian snickers or whatever.
