Not powerful in the way you suggested but I'm certainly below my partner in conventional hierarchy. Her family is wealthier than mine, at present she's better educated than me and she earns more. I'm immensely proud of her but I also lay ground rules so the relationship is balanced and I'm still the male authoritative figure.
