Not an Italian, but I've been there.
Easily one of my favourite Italian Cities, great architecture, not as crowded as Rome and has some pretty comfy places.
Also they sell some god tier sandwiches with guts, don't know if there's other place that has them but I have only seen it in Florence, make sure to try that out if you go there.

Wasn't really that expensive compared to Rome to be honest, then again, it helped that the friend I went with was friends with a local, so he showed us around to good/cheap places.
