I went to the best private university in the south, and I can tell you for a fact that this isn't true. The Muslim students at my uni were pretty much all "cultural muslim" with only two being actually practicing muslims. By cultural, I mean muslims who still believe, and maybe pray during jummah, but are not actively practicing the faith.

Cultural "muslims" are just losers who cling on to their heritage because they don't have an identity without it, but are pretty much ath*ists or agnostics, but will say "I'm not religious but have religious parents", usually have sex before marriage, drink, smoke, etc... Similar to Christians in America who do not follow any of the rules but still say they are christian.

Most muslims around the world are losers whose only identity that of a religion they don't fully understand.

I went to Rice, and while the muslim body here was small and most cultural, right next door to us was the University of Houston. UH has a very large muslim student body, and pretty much all of the "practicing" muslims there are dopeheads, whores, etc. Literally every guy and girl there has a history, and this includes girls who wear hijab, and guys who pray 5 times a day. Your idea of a religious purity among successful muslim youth, is a complete fantasy.
