They don't place importance on the nation state like right wingers do
They also like the way the EU takes money from higher GDP countries (UK, Germany) and invests it in relatively shit tier GDP countries (Romania, Bulgaria etc.)
They also like big government (although most don't know why) and the EU is like a super-big government lording over national governments

I'm not sure about the EU contradicting too many left-wing values. It's essentially a central government with as less democratic mingling as possible, which sounds pretty left-wing to me.
