You have to understand that our GDP per capta is fairly varied. Our North is Poorer than Colombia, and our south has the GDP per capta similar to Argentina's. It's a big country with very distinct population concentration.

Also, the same thing happens to Cuba's stats or the old USSR. Anyone who goes to socialist countries know that you can't go to certain areas and the government puts a whole lot of makeup in the areas they allow the UN or foreign journalists to go to. Venezuela isn't that good at that because they didn't go full authoritarian just yet, but they sure tried. If they open up, you'll see what actually goes one and the level of inequality it acually exists there.
