With the advent of advanced home security systems, locking doors is pretty much obsolete. Criminals don't go around neighborhoods these days jiggling doorknobs to see if they're open. If they really wanted to get in, they'd find the means to do so, locked doors or not; you're just slowing them down.

I live in an apt and the door locks automatically to the building. Locked myself out twice now just running outside for this or that. It sucks.

At my building where I work too the bathrooms are locked and you need to enter the code to get in. Because god forbid a homeless guy comes in, takes the elevator to the 4th floor, and tries to use our toilet.
