Canada used to originally refer to the French speaking parts and population.

Pretty much all things(not many) that can be considered to be distinctively Canadian can be traced to French Canadian origins.

I think canada would have a true culture if we were all brought up french. Right now we have an offshoot of american culture, except for the maritimes and some of the smaller communities. We would be more arrogant, but at least we would have something more.
