I appreciate you think we are so much smarter than you, but I think it'll be quite a bit harder for me in Finland than if I tried to get a spot at a Swedish university instead.

Because the majority speak Swedish. Here all Swedish-speaking educational institutions, state-funded or not, have practically no competition in comparison to Finnish ones because nobody speaks Swedish.
