To all past USSR countries

How is the fall of the Soviet Union viewed in your country? Is it celebrated or mourned about?
Is there a difference in opinion seen from the different generations?
Do the elderly miss the days of communist rule, or do they say "good riddance" to the fall?
What about yourselves?

You realize the Soviet Union is the primary reason, Eastern Europe is such a shithole right?
>>
Moldovan here

I'll try to sum up like this.

In the soviet era, we dreamed of freedom in our houses. In democracy, we dream of houses in freedom.
>>

Eastern Europe has always been a shithole even before gommunism
>>
>>73093996
Nice. At least there weren't homeless or starvation in Soviet Union.

Depends. Those, who wish the USSR to rebirth, are either brainwashed and ignorant patriots or who understand current Russian weaknesses and want it to restore its former glory.

I personally find the whole Soviet thing a cute experiment that should've went better if we had more efficient leaders.
Look at China - they're not doing so badly, to he honest, though they were typical commies back in 1950s.
>>
Depends in what is convenient for them
butthurt belt gets euro moneys in an amount Russia could never hope to match so they are very against
Central Asian people want it back because they want gibsmedats from Russia.
Any russian with working neurons doesn't want it back. Old people don't miss communism or ussr itself, they miss the status we had as "superpower" before we got utterly destroyed in the 90s

>>73094065
Not true. My parents had family in other villages, and in Romania too. Some of them were extremely poor. The difference was that everyone was like that, and the state provided you some minimal yet not enough supplies. There was hunger sometimes. But somewhat not extreme, except the war-related first times. Now things go bipolar. Some people live as gods and others become poorer than the poorest man in the 50's. But the majority lives in a constant survival state. We don't have anyone with us, we have to survive, to put our animal instinct in getting our families forward, in having house, and food. That didn't happened before. We were poor and hungry, but the idea of survival didn't exist. If things were to get better it wouldn't be because of us it would be for all and state granted.

I'm not an anti-communist. Communism is an ideal that would work nicely in a advanced state of humanity where our technology can provide us equal and enough resources. But in post-war countries like Moldova it only brought equal poverty. Yes, there was some corruption too, some people got rich, not as rich as nowadays, but rich. Yet, they were irrelevant in number and quantity. Today's thing is bipolar, extremed to the max.
>>
>>73094146
Stalinist era was horrible

COMMUNISTS ACTUALLY HAD 60% OF THE WORLDS TERRITORY AND LOTS OF RESOURCES.

BUT IF U KILL ALL THE SMART PEOPLE LIKE IN EVERY COMMUNIST REVOLUTION EVER, AND THEN KEEP THEN IN CHECK WITH A DICTATORSHIP, U DONT HAVE ANY PEOPLE WHO KNOWS HOW TO USE THE RESOURCES.

1. End of the rule of commies..
2. Dismemberment.

They are three separate cases.

Neither.

Some of them.

They have no idea what is communism.
They just miss doing nothing and having enough, their youth, peace, eetc. There are also people who were opressed by Soviets.

I am glad that commies and scialism are no more. Of course reforms were unprofessional but now is is not so important. Our society and culture were fuced up beyond repair, I don't belive that Russians (I mean native people) have a good chance for the bright future in our current state.

"On public services the Nordics have been similarly pragmatic. So long as public services work, they do not mind who provides them. Denmark and Norway allow private firms to run public hospitals. Sweden has a universal system of school vouchers, with private for-profit schools competing with public schools. Denmark also has vouchers—but ones that you can top up. When it comes to choice, Milton Friedman would be more at home in Stockholm than in Washington, DC."

The day of the fall of the Berlin Wall is regarded as the single greatest day of German history.

Sure, it's widely recognized for its historic significance but a lot of common people don't realize what a revolutionary event it was.

Seriously, it's no exaggeration. Up until the very events leading up to its fall, the great majority of people really believed that it was here to stay for at least a hundred years, even forever, that they would not live to see its end.

It really marked the end of a very traumatic era, even being regarded as the true end of World War ll to many. Announcing the beginning of a peaceful, properous and united Germany and Europe.

Though, integration didn't happen over night and many things like the privatisation of the state-owned industry posed several problems.

Living standards and employment still aren't on par despite trillions of payments from the western part of the country.

You still have a significant part of the East German population that looks back with a certain nostalgia to the time when there used to be a communist German state. Mostly people that felt like they were robbed of their identity, their home country they grew up in but also the losers of the reunification, people that had roles that really supported the system or those that were affected by the privatisation and the closing of non-competitive state-owned enterprises.
>>
>>73094065

Everyone knows about the food shortages in the ussr. Unless you are old enough to remember the 60s which is the only time it was decent. And for your early post about free travel everyone knows that's bs too as people needed permission to travel out of there area and that's not even going into the fact that there were restricted cities
>>
>>73104334
Most West Germans feel nothing but utter disgust for the former GDR.

They associate it primarily with it's inhumane spying machine, a surveillance apparatus that would hire civilians like your collegues, friends, family members and even lovers as informants.

They would change the course of your life (for example that denied university application) due to some critical opinion you uttered in public in front of a secret informant. They'd gaslight you, employ psychological warfare, imprison and torture you.

If you read about the privacy concerns of Germans then you feel find their root in this experience.

You could never be too sure. There were about 200 000 so-called informal collaborators working additionally to the agents of the secret service.

There were cases of people being denied this job, this promotion or their favorit university major because their 'best friend' ratted them out to the secret service over some critical comments they made during a night of drinking at the bar.

Right now there is a government agency that grants every single former citizen access to his or her personal file.

So if you might suspect that the course of yourself was changed at some point by this inhumane entity then you have a way of knowing. Though, during the chaotic collapse of the secret service they managed to destroy a part of their gigantic archives which are still being reconstructed, manually and computer-assisted. >Why do others still want to see more communism?
Do you mean western millennials who have no clue what they are talking about?
>>
>>73104857
Wtf I hate capitalism now
>>

I'm actually reading a book on the Stasi now. The actual scale of their operations is astounding. 1 in 6 people were working in some form for the Stasi.
>>
The Soviet Union was not pure communism. It was socialism, but without wellfer. For refusal to work sent to prison. However, jobs were enough for everyone.

>Using CATO as a valid source

kek
>>
>>73106126
Yeah, actually it's very hard to put a hard number on the whole moloch since there several categories of informants with a wildly varying degrees of collaboration.
>>
>>73106197
In this case CATO is a medium, not a source.

Let me guess, it doesn't count if it's not from Marxist.com or some Communist party website?

Today NSA and governments spy on a much larger scale and people tell everything themselve via social networks, mobile phones. Plus CCTV everywhere. On every corner, in every bus, train, road. And it recognizes faces, license plates, etc.
No stasi or kgb could dream of such total surveillance.
But nobody care people horrified by stasi.
>>
>>73106327
That's only because of technology becoming an integral part of daily life.

How could the KGB or Stasi compete with technology that didn't exist yet?

Pretty nice.

One of the things I like

I like those homogenous things.
>>

>Nobody care

There was a pretty big scandal between the US and German due to surveillance actually and this among the reasons for the big loss of trust of Germans in the US
>>
>>73106244
It's not about that. It's just that espefically CATO is too biased. It's like citing Fox News. There are decent think tanks (Either pro-democrat or pro-Republican, btw), but CATO is not your best source.

Saying China is capitalist is not too wrong. Capitalism is a primary core of development in order to achieve socialism. But comparing China to capitalism implies they might be on road to become a western democracy, which it's the aim of such comparison.

Also, Milton Friedman wouldnt accept the Nordic model because there is still too much economic intervention, at least for its own criteria.

If you want to check what Friedman would do, just check Pinochet's Chile. Hell, he even was an advisor there.

Ah lel those famines surely show the wrongness of the Irish system
>>
>>73093912
it was history. people tried it out, and didn't work. still don't understand the communist parties right now. i guess, old people.
>>
>>73106000
I don't know mate. Maybe because people actually hate what capitalists looters did to them and still support the communist ideal?
>>
>>73106825
Com Parties are either revisionist that has taken new approaches to understand masses, and therefore be more appealling to an electorate cluster; or literally elder clubs.
>>
>>73106825
In Russia we don't have actual commie parties.
In Ukraine they are banned.
>>
>>73106952
Yeah they're gunna try being nazis now kek.
>>
We actually still have a legit(at least one half of it) communist party in parliament that hides its powerlevel and pretends to be parlimentary democrats.
>>
>>73107000
Ukraine? Nationalists haven't even made into parliament there or got too few votes.
>>
>>73106952
>we don't have actual commie parties
what about KPRF? there also was another one, i saw their tv ad.
>>
>>73107106
KPRF has no commies in it and has nothing commie in their program. In fact it's a wing of united Russia party. They use commie symbolics to attract nostalgia votes of pensioners. But they are pro free market, pro christianity. They program is "make larger pensions".
But their program is a joke because they just vote for same laws as united Russia and proposed by Putin and have no initiative.
tl;dr they are not commies in any sense.
Another one is same shit but even more of a joke. They were created not to pass voting barrier.
>>
>>73107193
they still have the nationalization and other typical commie shit to be called commies.
>United Russia
yeah, them and Liberal-Democrate party are the same fucking thing.
>>
>>73107000
Azov only has a few thousand members. Definitely not anywhere significant in a country of 60milliions.

desu we have no real parliamentarism. and no real opposition especially in the parliament. all parties there are some flavours of united Russia and pet parties of kremlin.
they vote for all laws with 99% approval.
