More varied climate than in the surrounding countries for one. The weather, temperatures, topography and biomes overall in Denmark, Norway and to a lesser extent Finland is basically the same throughout each country. Not so in Sweden. Gothenburg, Stockholm, Umeå and Malmö are much more different from one another than cities equally far apart in Norway and Finland.

One thing I like to do is visit our island gotland. It's called the island of one hundred churches. They're really packed tight there and are all really nicely designed by middle ages standards. But I haven't been to Italy so my standards of reference are probably quite low.

I was playing extended timeline in EU4 and it reckons that the Danes came from Sjelland and the tip of Sweden. Is there an actual reason that you don't make a nordic union or would it just end up with Sweden and Denmark jostling for position again?

I always create Scandinavian empire in Victoria and ck 2. If it happened now then yeah, Swedish dominance would probably be the number one complaint. And if it were a federation with one vote for each country then Denmark and Norway would always agree and Sweden would be boxed out.

Why would Norway and Denmark gang up? Like I get they were in a union for a long time but the Norwegians seem pretty cool with the Swedish.

Is there much regret about forcing Norway to be in a union in modern Sweden? It seems pretty unfair how that all went down. Not necesarily gang up, they just have politics that are similar to one another and different from Sweden. It wouldn't be born out of malice, just political disagreement.

Any regret is for losing the union. The times when we controlled Finland and Norway are remembered fondly, if their remembered at all. And by taking Norway, which we had to pay Denmark a lot of money for, we helped them on their way to their eventual independence. It went ok. And it was a clever move by the king. He knew Napoleon personally and could tell he wouldn't win, so he sided with the British so we could reap the spoils of victory. And we couldn't very well stay neutral when Denmark-Norway had joined Napoleon.

Um there's some good videos on youtube for eu4. Definitely looking at the way combat works is a big thing. I went from 208 hours of CK2 to Eu4 and was so lost. I was fucking around a lot playing as Japan etc. Then had a bit of a kang about as Denmark, this was in an old patch where denmark was actually hard. Its piss easy now. That being said I had no idea what I was doing and even though I took all of the baltic and the British isles I declared war on Poland with Austria and France as my allys and Poland 1v3'd us all and fucked me. Ruined my game.

I'd say I started to actually know what I was doing 100 hours in but now I like it quite a lot more than ck2 so hey.

I've no doubt I'll try to get into eu4 some time in the future. Right now I prefer to have some room for roleplaying to latch onto to have fun. I've found it in Ck2, Stellaris, HOI4 and Victoria 2. Maybe I'll find it in eu4, and if not I can work around it.

The PU system is really cool though. Can basically own other countries and they put out far more than the value of the land in men and stuff. Its.. kinda a gamble though because a human will always control armies more intelligently
