Remember that Mexico has other Amerindian groups. On top of that the Aztecs were only active in Central Mexico, not all of modern day Mexico.

In all fairness the appropriation of the Aztec culture by Mexico was done with the purpose of nation building but most Mexicans probably aren't anywhere near being direct descendants of the Aztec people, not in blood nor in culture.
