Do you think it's possible to revive North American Tribal culture as an influential and important force in at least parts of the U.S.?
Side Question: Any North American Indians here on /int/?
>Any North American Indians here on /int/?
What are the odds? There are less than 1 percent of them left in USA.

we need to revive the maya script
It's happening to an extent in Canada, but I have a vested interest in seeing it go otherwise (oil company).
Much of the cultural resurgence is grounded in opposition to the status quo, and a fear of being wiped out, a sort of swan song protectionism. That's not the recipe for restoring a full and proud culture, it moreso stands as political objection and leads to the problems we see today (reserve-system alcoholism and despair, lacking infrastructure and labour potential). It will bleed smart young aboriginals who realize they can do so much better in the broader society.

This piques my interest. What kind of things are the tribes doing in this effort?

>swan song protectionism
It´s almost like it´s a pattern with dying peoples.
I genuinely hope so desu. Don't know why I care about it so much as I have literally no connection to native americans, but I've always thought that they had a nice culture but have been well and truly BTFO by the Europeans. I don't blame the Europeans for that (different times, different rules) and am not suggesting that they got more government handouts or anything like that, but I would love to see the native culture playing more of an active role in the current american culture. Realistically I think the best way for this to happen is if you have a native politician/celebrity who is happy to play the white man's game and become successful, but still being proud of his culture.

Well, for one, ever since the Tsilhqot'in case at the Supreme Court which granted a huge swathe of aboriginal title in the absence of a treaty, there's been a rush of court filings by first nations and metis groups alike to gain a heightened degree of sovereignty over their claimed land areas. Others have been gaining momentum pressuring resource companies to give them bigger equity stakes in the project, or are in outright opposition to certain projects (especially those that go over cultural sites, or might impact water or food supplies).
Their end goal seems to be full sovereignty and self-governance over areas of land, with full fee simple title, uninhibited by Crown (our government) involvement. And they're using a sneaky provision fitted into our modern constitution (the Charter of Rights in Freedoms), by none other than a Pierre E Trudeau, to expand the scope of their claims.
They're sending their best and brightest to law school, and using their resource royalties to pay for their tuition, with the hopes of fighting through the Court system. Historically, the Courts had no time of day for aboriginal claims, but now they're the only branch of government which seems to be giving them any progress.
Here's a short series on the Tsilqot'in if you find this interesting.

As soon as they stop drinking themselves to death or committing suicide, or being outbred maybe.

Weird, in Canada, aboriginals are the fastest-growing demographic.
Thankfully no
God bless Andrew Jackson.

>or being outbred maybe.
Y'know I would almost call for a tax bonus or free tuition as an incentive for high tribal birthrates in order to combat this, but on the other hand, it seems a little "eugenicsy".

You know how many benefits you get by just having a bit of injun in you? That is part of why there a shitload of mixed kids.

I liked the approach some latin american countries are taking with their natives. They don't really see them zoo pieces to be in reservations but try to integrate them through their culture into the rest of society as oppose to forcing them into it or letting know if they stay like they where, they are bound to die off (some started their own business ventures).
Not sure if can work here because how mixed the latin countries are and how thoroughly buttfucked the indians got it here.

That's still almost the population of Finland.
I am 1/8 but I'm a tribal member

People always forget just how big America is.

no
let old cultures die is the best
Look at Ireland... The only good thing about the country is they speak english, imagine if they still spoke a dead language like bulgaria or albania
If they aren't busy protesting oil pipelines then they're probably getting drunk and managing casinos so I doubt it.
I really hope so.
>>72796857
I think they should keep their languages alive, and their culture.
I know many Natives and none of them speak their language, most don't even go to the Pow Wows.
I go every year, they great. After listening to the drums and watching the dancing for a while you feel like you're in a trance.
Also could be because I'm always high as fuck at them too.

>I am 1/8 but I'm a tribal member
