I think it's chiefly a euro thing, including Canada. And I don't think it's only got to do with price. If I had to guess, it's because it turns the weed from a drug like alcohol to a booster like coffee. Most people can handle a few extra cups of espresso if they wanna focus on work or school, but not everyone can handle a pure joint on a friday night without it going too far for them.
Also, it seems to me like americans generally pass their joints a lot faster (puff-puff-pass), and possibly in larger circles, while most times I've smoked with europeans they take their sweet damn time with it.
If I had an abundance of grass, I'd only smoke pure joints a couple times a week, and small bowls/vaporizer the rest. It just hits so much harder, and while I enjoy a spacewalk as much as the next stoner, I'd rather dose for a long period of time with the same amount than bomb my brains out and build a tolerance in no time.

I think it's because

1) Americans smoke more in groups, so if you roll a joint with baccy and pass it around, not everyone is going to want to partake because of the tobacco.

2) Americans don't roll joints anymore. I know that's hyperbole, but I haven't seen anyone smoke a joint in like 5 years. Everyone either uses vaporizers (for ultra high-level stoners), bongs, or pipes.

I would recommend against taking MDMA pills unless you've had them tested to be honest.. Like 99% of what's sold in the Netherlands is pure MDMA because a) we produce the shit and b) we know the difference, so dealers that value their customers (and safety) try not to rip people off.. But in foreign countries, from what I'm told, you tend to pay top dollar for tablets that might or might not contain MDMA and are typically just Amphetamine tablets, if even that.

Also, if you swallow them it comes on slower and more gradually, and if you chew them it'll be faster and more intense. However, they're SO hideously disgusting I'd recommend you either just swallow it. If you want to to work quicker, ground the pills to a powder, wrap it in a rolling paper or something else that's very thin, and swallow that. That's what people also do to take speed orally here.

For the nicest way of crystals working (imo): Dissolve in water. If you run it through like a coffee filter first you'll also catch any rough impurities like glass, as they don't dissolve in water like MDMA.

Passing a bowl around is not useful, you have to refill if it's a small one or have to be VERY careful with what you burn if you have a bigger one.

Rolling a joint/spliff/blunt/anything is way more useful, you each take a certain ammount of drags(or play games because you're a stoner after all) and spread it out like that. a bowl is not social imo and looks kind of awful.
