Why didn't any European empires try to conquer Japan when it was the most backwards nation at the time?
>>72728951
No resources.
No strategic position. Europe just occupied China itself.
>>72728951
they couldn't because samurai is the most powerful warrior in histroy

Briefly:
>One of the more developed civizations in Asia
>Too far for most countries to easily exert influence over
>European balance of power kept anyone from having a free hand
>Americans distracted by civil war
>China was more apparently lucrative
>Easier to bargain and exploit divisions between domains and Bakufu
>Fast program of modernization and Westernization

That's just an excuse. Japan had long been known for a massive production of gold and silver, to the level of becoming the legendary land of gold, Zipang, which Europeans were dying for at that time. Plus, they took "worthless" lands all over the world, ranging from frozen barren shithole of Siberia to plague ridden Pacific islands. The reality is that nobody can defeat the Yamato master race as >>72729102 >>72729667 show.

Literally just stayed on their island and wet themselves when they saw the black ships.
Shut the fuck up you weeb, samurai is no more than a fashion statement for the nobility.
USA, composed with 90% of whites at that time, basically "conquered" them though, since after the nukes, Japan would do anything that USA told them to

not really
Besides conquistadors, no real sudden colonization of working nation states happened. Most colonization happened slowly and bit by bit.
East India Company ruled over India. You can even guess how that happened. They began by working there. Then they needed guards. The guards became a militia. The whole system developed into a small state with its bureucrats. It engulfed the whole subcontinent.

Christian missionaries and later Americans tried. Both eroded and ultimately destroyed Japans culture.

So traps aren't a new thing. Maybe the bombs didn't fuck them up, just encouraged them.
Suppose they could have blockaded the islands and leveled all the coastal cities. European cannons had the range advantage, and European warships could take on entire navies of eastern ships alone.
But that would take forever because Japan doesn't care if they're obviously losing.
