It's both mythical and legendary.

Historically it was just something beanie like headwear, woven of flax fibers and sewn to a shape it stayed on your head while doing daily chores.

It covered hair from the dust, twigs and bird feces. You took it off before eating so all that crap collected on it wouldn't fall in your food.

Southern Ostrobothnian brimmed hat.

A brilliant hat style overall (although it's me saying it).

Made of sheep wool felt. Always black. Very tight from, not droopy at all, ever.

Can be blinged out with particular silver coin-style ornaments attached to the hat band. Those ornaments actually served as pocket money if needed.

I disagree a bit here.

Mythical is basically completely fictional.

Legendary actually started from something real but then the story went out of hand. With legendary, you actually can with reasonable scientific archaeological confidence to point out how the story could have started.

We have no mythical fire-breathing dragons but we have those legendary knights who defeated them.
