Eh that's honestly a pretty bad way of tabulating whether a country is an ally or enemy. Not all wars are created equal.

The American Revolution didn't pose any existential risk to the British Empire. We couldn't invade you, you were untouchable. The most we could do is kill you on our turf, an eternal defensive war, and hope that eventually you got tired of the cost of shipping hundreds of thousands of soldiers over here.

Same for Vietnam and the USA. Vietnam never posed a risk to the USA, so the fact that Australia and other countries helped us out with it didn't matter much.

If you want a good idea of friends and enemies, you need to look at truly existiential wars and weight the value toward it. France and the USA were your allies during World War 1 and 2, during which the UK was much more likely to be invaded, occupied, and annexed by a hostile country. Same with the Hundred Years War with France as the enemy, as well. You literally owned a chunk of their territory, and claimed their throne.

Before France annexed Algeria, the Algerians practiced slavery and piracy. That stopped. The population increased from 1 million to 10 million under French occupation, which isn't "ransacking and pillaging." France sought to civilize them primarily.
