I don't even consider dogs as real pets, they are like living tools to me, they exist for practical purposes (hunting, guarding, fighting, mine sweeping, etc), not for petting.

it's just the religion tells that the fur and saliva are unsanitary and spoils spiritual cleanliness for praying purposes. my muslim teacher taught me that in order to clean clothes and/or bodily area from coбaки spoil, one has to clean with water seven times and with clean soil one time. i got a friend in college (girl, muslim) who likes dogs and even disgusted of cats. she sometimes bring her friend's puppy to class.
