I just read that American electrical outlets don't have

I just read that American electrical outlets don't have on/off switches. You guys aren't actually that primitive are you?

We do. It's called unplugging. Pretty simple concept.

this,

in USA outlets that are designed to be associated with a table lamp or something you would need a switch for (a corner outlet in a living room for ex) are often tethered to a switch in the room by the door

As an electrician you'd know the value of turning a circuit off before disconnecting parts of it

It avoids the spark many of you probably see when you rip cords out of the wall with power still a-flowing.
>>
>>72142877
That is a GFCI outlet, not a switched outlet.

It will disconnect on surge. Much safer than OP's outlet.

>>
>>72142863
Americans are smarter than us, they don't need a switch at the outlet, they just turn off the circuitbreaker or RCD at the switchboard. It's more efficient that way.
>>
Our dual outlets are commonly linked to a switch that is separate. Usually this is done for an outlet that will be used ie solely by a lamp. This is the superior way to do it, because then the switch can be placed where its convenient, instead of having to find a switch on an outlet behind a couch.

We don't have this faggotry in Brazil
>>
>>72142889

weird how there is a whole industry for roleplaying like this shit matters or is real.
>>
I hate to brag, but California's new energy code will get one over on OP's silly outlet.

A percentage of all outlets in new construction will be required to connect to a motion sensor. So if you are in the room and don't move around much for a while, the power goes out.

Saves energy and shuts down the TV or computer while your using them.
>>
>>72142876

As the other guy mentioned, its not nice having sparks and shit as soon as contacts are made. Its best to actually plug something in, have it in the socket THEN turn on the circuit. The UK socket is objectively the best power socket (and plug) in the world, you're an idiot if you think otherwise.

Yes they're very useful. It's nice not having devices draining power on standby without unplugging them from the socket.

Some americans seem to think that the socket switches replace device switches which is fucking retarded. You could claim ours is objectively better as you could turn an Australian power outlet into an American one by just having them switched on all the time.

as it is common knowledge ghosts take advantage of the EM band of electricity. This is how science detects them and helps them pass on through different planes and so forth

There is a reason most ghost activities are spotted during thunderstorms. It's been long suspected that the stored charges and violent bursts, aka lightening, causes ghosts to disturb their localized bands. If this apparition passes close to electronics that have not been properly grounded, they strip the copper wiring of their natural essences and may even damage the appliance. This happened to my Aunt's family not too long ago. I'm almost embarrassed to be related to them

Turning off and disconnecting are identical in function. The only difference is the speed at which the connection is broken. Switches generally being faster, but it's not like it matters because the ground plug is made longer so it's always the last to break contact.

Why not just control a plug you want to turn off and on with a wall switch to save bending over all the time?

Basically, cost efficiency. It's cheaper to make a power outlet with a built in switch than to have the switch and have to use extra cable to connect to the independent outlet. It's just a way of minimising cost.

You can't just stick a fork in an outlet in the UK. There's a safety mechanism that stops contact unless the earth is plugged in. Same for licking. There's even a handy switch to turn the socket off.

Anyway, static shocks off carpet are several thousand volts typically. It isn't the voltage that kills you.

They're from the early era in Britain when the house was all one one big circuit, instead of different legs. So if you plugged in too much, you could start a fire, so they turned the outlets off at the outlet. They just kept using them. They have smaller two prong, but they require fuses on the plugs, so they're the big ass ones.
