I live in Munich. It has definitely changed since the refugee crisis. I've been here since 2011, so I've seen it as it happened.
Most people I know are still very liberal, although that may be because of their academic background. Overall the city is quite nice, if a bit boring.

Depends how close to the city center. For a 2 bedroom flat you can expect to pay around 1k EUR per month. If you search for a long period you might get better deals, but to get those you definitely need German.

Learning German is key for integrating into society. English only may be sufficient in certain kinds of jobs, but for social life it's not enough. And speaking of that, Germany can appear to be cold to Southerners because our social life is organized differently. Much of German social life takes places in so called Vereine, i.e. clubs for particular interests and hobbies, like types of sports, or model building or singing in a choir etc. It's where you make most friends as an adult.

Well desu I've gotten used to most of it, but I pretty much intended to live in a Spartan way when I came here.

It's not like you _can't_ find apartments with decent kitchens and so on, at a cost. Fixed internet works okay, but in my case there was only one (1) ISP that didn't require a 12+ month contract.

If you just want to check it out here maybe chaining a bunch of Airbnb apartments for 1 month each would be useful, less language barrier, commitment etc
