we have a normie culture that deters a lot of kids from doing well in school because "trying isn't cool," so a big chunk of students just show up to school to sit there and not participate or be assholes to teachers/peers and actually try to deter people from learning.

some schools are better or worse with this situation obviously and it just depends on the culture of the school or the area the schools in, i went to a ghetto black middle school and then an average white high school and the difference was insane in how much the students actually did work and good the teachers were at their jobs.
