I can't see how it would work and what benefits it would bring.

The UK is typically in Europe economically, while the Canadians are practically an extension of America in that regard. To join Europe would be to throw that all in the bin.

Also the differing technical and legislative standards.
The brits made a big deal about having to change the colours of their electrical wiring to match EU regs, just imagine the Canadians having to change over all their power infrastructure to 230V.
It might be the better technical standard, but it isn't worth spending Canada's GDP over to change to it.
