I still think consumerism would exist regardless of wether we abolished capitalism or not. Though it entirely depends on the type of economy and society it would fall under.

For example, if it was Stalinist, then yes there would be mass consumerism done in the name of the state.

If it was anarcho-syndicalist, consumerism would exist but it would exist more of a "help me so I can help others via mutual aid" sort of scenario.
