Soviet*.

Soviet engineering was a thing that followed a specific doctrine.
In Polish we describe as "gniotsa nie łamiotsa" which is a phonetic calc from russian "гнeтьcя нe лoмaтьcя" meaning roughly "bends but doesn't break" describing a very robust solution without any finesse that "gets the job done" and nothing beyond it.


Contemporary Russian engineering is no different to contemporary German or American engineering. It's all garbage built to fall apart beyond the ability to fix it. Rings especially true with modern German engineering. God it fucking sucks.
