As a person who did use loans it's your own fault if you end up with anything more than 20k.

If you go to a school that has really high tuition without a full ride, you're a moron. Most of the "expense" of college comes from supporting rent/food because so many Americans live away from home during college. Tuition itself isn't why students go into debt.
