This guy found the perfect way to bribe our PM: he funded a newspaper which is completely unaffiliated to Bibi yet its all purpose is to serve Bibi and promote him. So far he spent $700,000,000 on the newspaper which is handed away for FREE. Everyone knows it's a bribe, yet nothing is done against it legally because there's no direct exchange of favors.
Could something like that happen in your country too? If not, what prevents it?
>>
In our country politicians run their own propaganda TV channels and papers.
There is a saying that you don't make a party without having a TV channel to back it up.
3rd parties can do it like your guy, but it's less popular because they can start a party instead.

No, billionaires influencing politicians only happens in Israel.

A 700 million dollar bribe just seems excessive
To answer your question, we dont have restrictions on such things. They're called "SuperPACs" and anybody or company can give any amount of money (potentially undisclosed). It's considered legal because companies and legal entities have all the rights of individuals (a mostly sensible ruling) and the PACs aren't allowed to have any coordination with the campaign.

It's pennies for him. Edelson found the perfect way to make money: letting fat Americans enter his casinos, pouring money even though the house are in his favors, and leave without any way to make a claim it was rigged.

This is /pol/, where people argue in favor of rich people having the natural right to be rich even though coincidentally they also make the rules which make them rich.

The house always is favored in some way in gambling games. Otherwise the casinos wouldn't have a safe enough profit. Our president tried to do the same thing but went bankrupt multiple times.

Gambling can be addictive and negatively impact people's lives, but it's not inherently evil or an unacceptable vice. When passing through Vegas I won 70 cents on 10$ and called it quits. Couldn't stand watching my money tick down.

Businesses should have the right to free speech, to be free of unreasonable search and seizure without a warrant, to have religious affiliation, to support candidates for office if they so desire. There should be limits or at the very least disclosure for these PACs. Playing "I'm not touching you" with bribery is ridiculous and immoral. The decision that money=speech is ridiculous and wrongheaded.

Corporations cannot be religious or hold political opinions, they are legal structures meant to maximize profits for owners. The fact that some business owners hate gays and don't want to serve them doesn't make their business religious. Walmart doesn't go to church, not can it vote, but it can bribe politicians.

Why so? Democracy is run by people not corporation.

Because businesses are run by people. For example, if businesses did not have a right against unreasonable search and seizure, apple would be forced to unlock all of their phones whenever the government asked, essentially violating individuals rights. The government tried to force them to do this in court and lost. How do you separate the rights of a person who owns their own business and is the only employee from the business itself? Same can be said of larger businesses. When the business owner speaks, is that their speech or the businesses speech? If it's the businesses, do you punish the individual or fine the company?

As for the other person, same thing applies with religion. It's why closely held (that is, owned and run by individuals, usually a family) companies have certain religious exemptions that publicly owned companies do not.

It's better for people to not lose their rights because they exercised their rights to free association.

>businesses did not have a right against unreasonable search and seizure, apple would be forced to unlock all of their phones whenever the government asked,

No because those phones are owned by individuals whose privacy would be violated in such an event. The government should have every right to look into corporations' books if they so wish.

You can perfectly separate a person from his or her business. If a person's religion mandates that they refuse to serve black people, then that would be illegal, but doing the same thing to gay people is perfectly acceptable, largely because the republican party wants it that way.
