Using Rikaikun instead of learning can easily become a crutch, my friend is able to read most stuff in Japanese, but only if he can hover over and get a definition, since he hasn't learned kanji.
But if you're doing some kind of vocabulary deck on the side, daily, there's no problem with cheating your way to extract information from specific texts that seem important to you. Just don't consider it practice time.

I've been using HelloTalk because an anon on /v/ suggested it. I'm not sure if I just counter corrected a japanese guy correcting my post (that's a feature).
I posted a photo of my galko chan nendoroid with the caption "私は主体的大人。”
I got correction which made it "私は責任ある大人。” Isn't 責任 the noun form and 主体的 the verb form though? What's the relevance of 'ある"? I do know I forgot to include "な" though.

I personally did RTK for a couple months then went into core 2k/6k and grammar at the same time once I finished RTK. It's debatable whether you want to do kanji by themselves or not but at most you lose a few months while gaining basic (albeit sometimes not very helpful) meanings of kanji while more importantly in my opinion learning how to write and reproduce kanji.

Really the choice is up to you, if you want to have the ability to write kanji independent kanji study will be necessary at some point if not make sure to do grammar and vocab at the same time, maybe starting the vocab a couple days before your selected grammar study method.

I'm doing it but I'm making it a side learn compared to vocab/grammar. Although he introduces kanji by complexity, the words that correspond to each kanji is not arranged by use. You'd end up learning how to write 汁(しる)[juice, mostly unused on its own due to connotations with semen] first before you'd be bothered to write the more often used 高(たか) [tall, expensive, large], which, depending on your pace, will actually increase the time needed to study in order to consume native material.

I can manage to read shit in anki by photographic memory and I don't really need to practice writing since my goal in learning is just to consume media.

If I'm less certain about a card or if I'm feeling proactive, I'll say a card and think its definition before flipping to the back. Then grading it is usually an easy choice.

Some people in /djt/ have a writing/stroke order fetish but I'm not into that. You certainly don't need it to memorize the kanji, but recognizing radicals makes it way easier (which I use).

Essentially, yes. The form used in that sentence specifically is a shortened slang form of しなくてはいけない.

The unshortened form is always more polite, but you're more likely to hear the shirtened versions in media and many real-life conversations.

I finished Yotsubato! yesterday. I came a long way while reading it. When I started it would take me 10 minutes to read a page or two, with all of the lookups I'd have to do throughout and my shoddy understanding of grammar at the time. By the end of Volume 13 I was reading it quite comfortably, finishing a page in a minute or so.

Is it likely that I won't experience big, sudden improvements like that anymore? Should I move on to something significantly harder, that takes me a long time to read, and hope that my ability will improve similarly to how it did during reading Yotsubato? Or should I just gradually increase difficulty with each item I read?

Based on my learning of other languages (and now a bit with Japanese), I have the feeling you get used to a particular series' vocabulary, way of writing sentences and even expectations of what a character may say or do, so getting a new title will throw your balance off for a while just like Yotsuba did.
Expect this to happen a few more times before picking a fresh title and really understanding it from the get go.

It's not that hard especially if you like the night. In a weekend I can push my sleep to be about 10AM to around 6PM then recover so I'm back to normal by Monday. 行かせない on its own literally does mean "to allow (x) to go," but as I understand it, it's too abrupt. (if I'm wrong about this feel free to correct me)

やれる (or 遣れる) is the "able-to-do" form of やる, which means "to give." So, やれない is "can't give."

行かせてやれる, therefore, is "able to give you the ability to go," and 行かせてやれない is "unable to give you the ability to go." It's like "I give you permission to go."

I've noticed that if you watch anime, you know a lot of vocabulary all over the place from N5 to N1 and that in a sense, all you have to do is solidify that understanding. Although, I don't see how learning vocab helps your grammar and talking with natives. Natives understand you regardless of whether or not you're right anyways.

I'm around N3, although in retrospect I feel a bit bad saying that I can talk with native speakers well, because even though I can have conversations with them, there's still so much I don't know. I do learn grammar from places like Tae Kim and Imabi, and I google grammatical things that I don't understand along with getting things from native patterns. Even if you won't talk like them, you still need to be able to understand women. It's not that hard to differentiate, either. You're probably more at risk of picking up "anime habits" or whatever you want to call the more dramatic ways of expressing oneself that's only found in fiction.

If you're really that concerned, just avoid harem games. If you're super secure about your masculinity (which I suspect not?) you can go in the totally opposite direction - otome games will definitely feature mostly male casts. Otherwise, just any plot driven game should be okay.

Mnemonics are really working for me and thanks to them I learned kana really fast. What resources do you recommend from that methord from those 3 listed in OP? or is it just based on personal preferences? I tried making my own mnemonics for kanji so far but it didn't always work.
