Depends where you want to live, District 1 is the costliest since it's the center of the city, the prices lower the further away.
You can rent a decent home to yourself in Tan Phu District for around $400 a month (that's where I live, idk about others).
The rate for teaching English is around $25/hour but the living cost is ridiculously low, you can survive on $3 a day.

$250 sounds reasonable for a lower-mid range house but I guess, it shouldn't be a problem if you live alone.
You can find houses in alleys, they're way cheaper. You can survey the area because honestly I'm not really sure about other districts. I'm native.
