Yeah, I'm inclined to think China doesn't deserve sovereignty over Tibet. It's an illegal occupation. A little western influence seems a small price to pay for Tibet to be free of direct domination by foreigners.

No, that's Panchen Lama who was appointed by the Party. Dalai Lama barely gets to meet any of the western leaders he's supposedly backed by since every country wants to have good relations with China. Also, Lhasa has been rebuilt to look like a generic mainlander city and han chinese are being transferred there to overtake tibetans as the majority demographic. There's not much of a conspiracy behind Dalai Lama's motivations, regardless of how good of a person he really is.
