I don't know if it's a lot different between Poland and Western countries since we actually produce most of our stuff here (food is our largest export into EU) but the fact that packages in Poland contain less products than they do in Netherlands or Germany is nothing new.
What surprised me is that the nominal price per gram of product is sometimes lower in Germany despite us being the poor fags here.

An interesting article, but it doesn't change much. The products on the shelves here won't change overnight, it will also most likely go unnoticed.

The best we can do, is to read labels and contents. You can often find local products of much higher quality, and sometimes without any preservatives, colourings or synthetic flavours.
