I can usually make out the things I read, thanks to highschool French, but the accents, idioms, and late additions are all over the place.

I can hold a rudimentary conversation in French, and do some back and forth with Italians and Spaniards as long as they understand English. Fucked if I know what Portuguese are going on about.

Languages on the Iberian Peninsula, besides Basque obviously. I only know Spanish and I can mostly understand a text in Portuguese or Catalan.

It's a weird thing. Portugese and Spanish are intelligible, Spanish and Italian are intelligible, Italian and French are intelligible but not Portuguese or Spanish with French.
