Okay, I am not supplying a translation into English, I am trying to explain its etymology. Should have been better at the Great Game I guess.

From a military standpoint there was no way to no have you get occupied with the technology of the age. These days with a couple of bases there maybe. But back then you were always going to fall.

Personally I think we should have let Patton off his leash and seen what he could do against the Soviets but I also think we should have nuked China to shit so what do I know?

I used to talk to a girl from there on skype and she said it was pretty miserable and grey. All factories. Sounded kinda grim

Germany was always going to kick off mate. I mean maybe if England had colonised the fuck out of them and prevented them from building up militarily post WWI it might have been avoided.

WWII turned out pretty well though desu. Besides the Soviet land grab, that should have and could have been avoided imo. But the fact is that the idea of prosperity in the beaten nation has defined the way the world is today. Perhaps too much with the influence Germany has in Europe today.

But enough Celt remains in the Czech to make them prone to the "Celtic disease" (haemochromatosis), meaning the inherited genetic mutations.

Actually we created France. Back in 407 AD.

We were the (Salian) Franks (aka Merovingians), we just gave all free (non-Belgic) Gauls the right to call theirselves Franks, like the Romans did for them 3 centuries before that.

The main reason Franks took over the Roman Empire, is because they liked them, but they saw that the Romans had turned into Italians (corruption, decadence, military fails).

Contrary to popular belief the Early Middle Ages (Dark Ages) did not start then, the first two centuries Franks did a decent job. The misery started after the founding of islam, in no time they had conquered Roman North-Africa and the whole Mediterranean trade was abolished due to a sudden zergrush of muslim pirates.

The Belgian historian Henri Pirenne already pointed this out a century ago, but his work obviously rustled many muslim feathers. Still thanks to a recent review of his work, he has been proven right.

great post. i'm kinda tired of edgy kids equating it with Christianity when in reality it all happened due to budget strain caused by fighting off the muslims. sure the Pope encouraged them, but the need to fend off their advance (and the benefit from pillaging them) also were factors

Belgian women both Flemish and Walloon are actually less slutty than all our neighbours. But for all other young tourists it is not that easy.

It is very comfy. There are a lot of tourists but they are not a hassle. I like to walk around at night, especially in the week there are not a lot of people on the streets then, and the scenery combined with the silence of nighttime is very atmospheric.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Procession_of_the_Holy_Blood
Every year since 1303 there is this procession where they parade the blood of Christ around. The tourists are an advantage to us, since they give us:

- a good reason to ban and eradicate any budding muslim ghetto neighbourhood, which is strictly enforced, the few muslims we have are mixed sparsely amongst the locals so that their power levels do not increase.

- emphasise the local Christian traditions, not only the yearly Holy Blood procession, the five-yearly Procession of the Golden Tree (to honour the marriage of Charles the Bold with Margareth of York in 1468), and last but not least the name of our Christmas Market is uphold (in some cities with a large muslim minority the cuck politicians changed it to 'winter fun' not to offend them).

- a good income for local hotels, cafés and resaurants

- a vigilant police who'll use the protecting tourists excuse when some undesirables have to be removed, while not touching every Belgian's right to walk around in public with a can of beer (unlike in Antwerp, because muslims)

I was exagerrating a bit about our girls, it is just because for some reason they really like Spaniards and Latinos. For a tourist who plays his cards right, porking a local girl is still far easier than for the local boys, because they are more likely to do one-night stands and vacation love with them. Still it is mind-boggling why they all swoon for those hairy manlets from Spain.

Anglos are well liked, even the Brits here are ok, they aren't Ibiza-tier, except on the yearly Belgian beer tasting fest in autumn, there we have a lot of drunk chav Brits dressed like superheroes starting fights.

e's and coke are also no prob

Estonia.

There are a number of theories:

1) From the Proto-Germanic word for "east" - *austraz
2) From the Proto-Baltic word for "field", "land" - *aīsto-, *aīst(e)r - compare Lithuanian "aikšte" - clearing, field

So, why do we call ourselves "Eesti" in Estonian? The word is a 17th century loanword from German that only became popular among Estonians in the 19th century. People were obsessed with "culture" and looked towards Germany as an example. So, they adopted the word "Eesti" which had been used by Germanophones and popularised it.

We called ourselves "maarahvas" - lit. "landfolk" before, which I think is a much better name. "Estonia" as in the land was "maavald" - "land parish". The Estonian language was "maakeel" - "land tongue/language"

Although Finland ain't much better - they took it from the Baltic word for "land" - *žemē-, or alternatively "man". [compare Old Lithuanian "žmuo" for this root]
>>
>>71240689
>We called ourselves "maarahvas"
Thank God you didn't stick with it. It sounds too much like "marchwie", which means carrots in Polish. I wouldn't like to call you "the Carrot Land", Eesti is much cuter.

>>
>>71240874
"Maarahvas" would be the endonym; you wouldn't use it in foreign languages.

The exonym for most languages would still be derived from the Latin "Estonia", or from the county of Ugandi in Latvian [Igaunija], and the county of Viru in Finnish. [Viro]

Another possible origin is the greek word Italói, which the Greeks used to denote a tribe living in Calabria (the region corresponding to the tip of the italian boot peninsula), which adored calf statue. Then the name was extended to southern Italy, to central Italy after various roman victories against the Samnites and Pyrrhus, and even to Northern Italy in 49 BC.
In the year 27 AD the name Italia included the Nice region in France on the western side and Istria in Croatia on the eastern side.

So literally gib back our fucking clay

There is substantial archaeological and linguistic evidence that Troy was an Indo-European city associated with the steppe culture and haplogroup R1b. The Trojans were Luwian speakers related to the Hittites (hence Indo-European), with attested cultural ties to the culture of the Pontic-Caspian steppe. The first city of Troy dates back to 3000 BCE, right in the middle of the Maykop period. Troy might have been founded by Maykop people as a colony securing the trade routes between the Black Sea and the Aegean. The founding of Troy happens to coincide exactly with the time the first galleys were made. Considering the early foundation of Troy, the most likely of the two Indo-European paternal haplogroups would be R1b-M269 or L23.

In the north of France, haplotype frequencies vary between 39% in Paris and 47% in Lille. For north European continental countries, haplogroup frequencies vary between 49% in the Netherlands and 41.5% in Belgium; values are 44% in Germany and 39% in Switzerland
