I've never really been travelling abroad but can you even get 10 year visas anywhere else? Do we get 10 year visas to China as well?

In our case (and I assume your's will be similar) it's not "you can live in the country for 10 years," it just means you don't need to constantly be reapplying for visas every single visit. I think in our case the maximum stay is 6 months.
