Context:
It is very hot in place I am in at the moment but lying with a fan blowing against my face provides comfort and a feeling of relaxation. Turning off the fan or moving away from it causes a rapid rise in body temperature and within minutes I am dripping in sweat and stressed out/anxious. This space within the fan breeze is like a comfort zone or a safe space from the environment.
Could this be referred to as an 安地、as in 安全地帯?

Why does 6k not teach you individual kanji first before throwing a bunch of compounds at you?

I've been learning the individual ones on the bus with Obenkyou now and my retention is improving, slightly.

How does DJT rate Memrise? I've been learning German and wanted to check out the Japanese stuff they have there, one 'course' I picked was pretty straightforward with stuff like konnichiwa and sayonara, all in Romanji. Another one I picked seemed much more in depth, looking at individual kanji, but it gave me problems midway through because it wanted me to enter the kanji characters but I don't have a proper keyboard set up. So my second question would be how do I type kanji?

I haven't been doing much besides reading the neocities link and making some notes about it. Still a relative newcomer, but from what I saw of this Memrise course it does a pretty good job of introducing individual kanji, I'm just not that far into it yet because I haven't got my keyboard set up. It introduces the individual kanji and then shows words that use them.

I prefer Obenkyou, mostly for >muh stats because I already use it and its for android.

Also because it organizes into the JLPT levels including vocab, seperates kanji, hiragana, katakana, vocab and even numbers numbering very high into different groups. It's kind of like an Anki deck. You can also see which cards you're doing well with with colour coding, (green, yellow, orange, red) and choose to remove them.

I used memrise for prefectures in Japan, I find Japanese tend to open up a bit about their homes when you understand basic Japanese geography.

But still, I think understanding individual kanji helps a lot, especially if you seeing one a lot to at least look it up.

That is the "optimised" reorder, which I guess is a bit different from the Core6k deck.

Well, if kanji are giving you trouble it probably couldn't hurt switching over to the Core10K deck. I'll have a quick look at the first 1600 of the Core6k deck and see which words are found in the first 1600 of the Core10k, but it wouldn't be that hard to hit easy on those cards.

Why does 6k not teach you individual kanji first before throwing a bunch of compounds at you?
Because it wouldn't be efficient, in terms of vocabulary frequency.

For instance, you will see 弁当, 弁護士 and 弁明 far more often than you're going to see 弁える.
I have learned 作業, 商業 and 業界 still during Core2k if I'm not mistaken, and I'm 9000 words in without having learned what is (if there is one) the verb or solo meaning attached to 業.

The reason you want this, I figure, is for having a better grasp on a kanji's overall meaning, but after seeing so many words with 業, I don't need that anymore, it just clicks. 弁, on the other hand, makes no sense in lots of words, and is probably phonetic in words like bentou.

I guess this is the consequence of choosing vocabulary over kanji study, you can always study them separately in RTK or other source, but those won't be vocabulary words like Core proposes to teach you.

That's ごう、not ぎょう as found in the aforementioned words. Both ぎょう and わざ readings of 業 are far more related to words like 作業, 商業 and 業界 than 業・ごう is.

started popping up I started to run out of kanji I had previously seen or studied, even just being able to tell yourself, 'okay, this and this makes this meaning', instead of just two kanji that you have no word or way to describe for in your head because you never seen them and can only recall on them on looks and maybe reading alone.

So I've been reading a VN with a texthook, and comparing lines to the english script just as a reference, but this one was weird.

It was translated as "Uh, and how about you over there?" I assume that was a translation error, since "her over there" makes more sense given the speaker was asking about her from another person, not directly the one in question.

Finished reading the guide. In jap 101 and have already got hiragana down. The guide recommends to memorize 2k kanji before beginning to read, and even then you will be looking up multiple words per page. If 2k words is a sufficient amount why would you still be looking up words?
