EU immigration is part of the common market, the common market is the point of the economic side of the union. Trying to do trade with borders, visas and permits across borders would be a bigger hit on European economies than any in the history of the union. Except for the fact the reason they're failing to meet demand is precisely BECAUSE of the single market.
