In fact the 80's were probably the worst decade in Spain since the Civil War of the 30's.

Deindustrialization, drugs rampant killing thousands, AIDS spreading because of that, terrorist attacks from ETA, GRAPO, etc. every other day. The unemployement over 20%. The economy crumbling. The military trying Coups d'Etat. It was terrible. Of course the Socialists were in power during all that time, WHO ELSE?
Spain didn't start recovering until 1996 and then in 2007 (when the Socialists were back in power) it went to the shitter again.
