Why did Europeans try to eradicate Australian abbos and repopulate the place with Europeans, but did fuck all with Papua New Guinea besides send a few token missionaries to spread Christianity?

no gold in papua
>>
>>70730291
because Papua Nueva Guinea had natives who were farmers and was much more densely populated, also, it is all mountains with thick jungles, not easy terrain.

abbos in comparison were super stone age natives with low population densities, with a land much easier to colonize, and a climate more suited to europeans, at least Southern Australia.

The big question to me is how Abbos survived so long, they should have been wiped out by Polynesians or Indonesians.
>>
I thought it was because of Cannibal Tribes.
>>
>>70730711
Europeans had guns and stuff... Some cannibals wouldn't have posed much of a threat.
>>
australia was worth the effort........well at the time it was
>>
You can fire rifles on the Outback. You can't in the jungle.
They tried killing off most tribes in here too after they rebelled and even being way ahead they still suffered great losses, and that's all because of the jungles.

This. Papua is heavily mountainous and is mostly jungle, the same reason why central africa took so long to be colonized as well. That, along with having many languages and a sizable population, all while being an island, it made it pretty pointless to stick around for long. other than trying to convert them or doing a bit of trading.

it's not worth it in PNG.
The terrain is fucking. The whole place is mountainous and covered in thick rainforest.
Even if you manage to clear the trees, then you have to deal with the shitty topography + the country isn't that large.
On the other hand, you have a massive flat country with much thinner and more sparse woodlands.

Abbos died cause of diseases brought by the "colonists", same shit happened to the aztecs etc.

On the other hand, murricans basicly holololed the majority of the native american population and shut the rest in gulags aka native reservations.
Need i remind that the USA invented concentration camps?
>>
>>70731030
Fucking hell, this shit happened hundreds of years ago and people still get defensive about it.

Yes, Britain and later the independent America fucked the natives over a lot. Reservations are shit today, but originally, they were made to protect the natives from white people killing them by destroying their good supply. So the reservations was actually the opposite of holodmoring them, they got the reservations because we were holodmoring them before.

No, Spain wasn't exactly innocent. Some of their colonists made deliberate attempts to spread diseases once they realized what was happening. They believed diseases came from god, so they were gods punishment to the natives for not being Christian or whatever. At least that's what the more radical colonists believed.

Also, I thought concentration camps were formally invented in the Boer war?

Native American "reservations"

The first modern concentration camps in the United States were created in 1838. Around this time, the United States was getting bigger. However, Native Americans lived in the lands that the United States wanted to take over.[1]

In 1830, the United States Congress and President Andrew Jackson had passed a law called the Indian Removal Act. This law said that all Native Americans had to leave the United States and move to "Indian Territory," west of the Mississippi River.[1] However, many Cherokee people would not leave their lands. In May 1838, the United States government decided to force the Cherokee to leave the United States.[1]

First, soldiers forced about 17,000 Cherokee people, and 2,000 of their African-American slaves, into concentration camps, where they had to live during the summer of 1838.[2][3] 353 Cherokee people died in the camps from dysentery and other diseases.[4] Finally, the Cherokee were forced to travel to the area that is now Oklahoma. (At the time, Oklahoma was not in the United States.) The government also forced other Native American tribes to leave their lands and move west.[1]

Soon, many people from the United States started to move west. Now the United States was moving into Native American lands again. Starting around the 1860s, many Native American tribes fought back. These fights are now called the Indian Wars.[5] The United States government reacted by forcing Native Americans to leave their lands again and move into concentration camps.[5][6] The government called these camps "Indian reservations." (They were called "reservations" because some land had been put aside, or "reserved," for the Native Americans.) However, Native Americans were not allowed to leave their reservations. On some reservations, many people, especially children, died from hunger and sickness.[6]

OK you're right about the reservations. I guess Molymeme lied to me....

the Indian Eradication Acts were less than 100 years ago and they were aimed at taking away any authority native tribes had over anything, including their usually paltry reservations
>>
>>70731030
>USA invented concentration camps?

Because reservations were fenced areas totally not acres of open land

This is a concentration camp on the left, and a reservation on the right

Notice a difference?

It was a brutal act to forcibly displace a population, but the US did not put the natives in prison camps.

There's a slight (ever so slight) difference.

Don't you have a toilet to unclog anyway?

Iirc, the Javanese thought this place was cursed or maybe they were too comfy in their archipelago. Polynesians though, think they were just too lazy

So what happens inside a reservation?
I nevere really got the concept right, are they fully independent or its like a big large LARP field for them to play indian?
Do they have cars and houses inside the reservations or are them long-house and loincloth only places?
>>
>>70735541
Matters on the reservation.

The ones with casinos generate enough money for basic services like a hospital and schools. Also provides a check to the people on the reservation, which many use for alcohol and drugs

The ones without casinos are poor and many use alcohol and drugs

I knew someone who was from the reservation in south Louisiana. That one had a casino and she got a check for a few hundred every month.

But are they full American citizens?
Like they have passports and Obamacare?
Do they vote on the general election or they have their small reservation-government?
Seems like a weird arrangement, our natives just live in poor neighborhoods and thats it.
>>
>>70735750
Not sure these are some good questions.

>>/plebbit/
>>
>>70735541
They're all somewhat modern (people live in mostly modern housing and dress and eat like modern people), but many of them are still literally third-world-tier. On some reservations electricity and running water are a luxury, healthcare is almost nonexistent, people have to queue for water at a pump, stray dogs roam everywhere, and people have to stack old tires on their tin roofs to stop them blowing away in the wind.
>>
>>70735750
>But are they full American citizens?
>Like they have passports and Obamacare?
>Do they vote on the general election?
Yes
Yes
Yes

They have their reservation-governments on top of all that.

They're also citizens of the individual states they live in.

Reservations are on some of the shittiest land in the USA but they are just additional legal benefits on top of all the other rights which almost* every other American has.

*people living in DC and the 5 territories have weird situations which put some limits on the people living there
>>
>>70730291
The only place they did that was Tasmania. They never did so elsewhere except certain individuals fucking around with the whole race concept, either for profit or because they were mentally ill. Generally no one touched them and were indifferent, some liked them or were interested in them.
