http://www.politico.eu/article/us-may-lure-more-countries-out-of-eu-says-likely-trump-envoy/

>US may lure more countries out of EU, says likely Trump envoy

>Theodore Malloch argues that offering bilateral trade deals behind the EU’s back would be ‘ingenious.’

>The U.S. could seek bilateral trade deals with European countries behind the back of “a certain bureaucratic organization called the European Union,” according to the man tipped to be Donald Trump’s ambassador in Brussels.

>Any EU member country that struck such a deal would have to leave the bloc but Theodore Malloch, a university professor, implied that Trump would not be concerned about the diplomatic consequences. Asked on BBC Radio 4 about the political fallout, he chuckled: “You’re dealing with President Trump and clearly when it comes to foreign policy … He’s willing to turn the table over and do something quite different.”

Why did the EU think they could bully the eternal Anglo? Haven't they learned anything from history? The most powerful man in the world hates the EU and Merkel. And he is on our side. You mad, EUfags?

It really depends on how the US economy is performing. If it performs well, a trade deal will benefit both parties. When it performs poorly, it starts to seem as though it's benefiting one country over another. That's why it took until the recession for people to start turning on NAFTA

Calling things a meme doesn't make them go away, the common market isn't something that can function with bilateral trade deals because it involves evolving regulations, the complete removal of non tariff barriers and the recognition of banking systems as equivalent. The swiss banks need subsidiaries and they're as close to being in the EEA without being in the EEA as humanly (countrily?) possible.
Dumping money in Nigeria isn't going to get you the same as your biggest fucking trade partner.
Bulgaria, Romania and the rest of eastern Europe aren't in the EU because the French or the Germans liked us, we're here because of USA and UK pressure, so don't act like a fucking victim.
UK opted OUT of restricting polish immigration when they entered EU, Germs and Frogs smashed that restrict button, YOU are the blame l, not EU. Maybe they wouldn't be your largest minority now of you did.

They haven't even started talking properly yet. Parliament over here won't let them fuck over the NHS or lower food standards anyway. Why?

1. Doing anything to undermine NHS is political suicide
2. We can't lower food standards very much because if we do that, we won't be able to trade with EU countries. So they must be kept high anyway.

I think this trade deal won't be very wide-ranging, its main purpose will be some sort of face-saving exercise

They're the 'strongest' EU economy because they have the largest population.

You'll be in the influence of another bigger country anyways, if not the EU, unless you're the USA. Like if the Americans (and brits) overtly try and lure euro countries away from each other and actively try and fuck over the continent, could there potentially be a "well we've got to be the masters of our own european destiny now" attitude have a resurgence? I'm factoring in Trump's anti-Nato rhetoric in this too.

I'm not disappointed by the potential here, but let's be real. Trump and Trumpians can only seduce others by leading by example at this point. If Trump's domestic policies succeed (and perhaps his foreign policy), he will have far more soft power than the Obama Administration with Europe.

But if for whatever reason he fails to fulfill a major campaign promise, he will be as useless as Obama's "closed" Guantanamo.

It all boils down to what he can actually start and finish.

There's a reason why there aren't Finnish teachers in Japan, Europoor.
>>
>>70490358

well to be historically fair, both of us have had devastating civil wars.

but in modern times, mostly thanks to mass media, the US is not a geographically or regionally divided country in the same way that Spain is. right now the American divide is rural and urban, which is not a pattern conducive to civil war -- it's one of collapse.
>>
>>70491412
It's been one week and he has already made major strides towards implementing half of his promises. Compare that to Obongo.

The next 1,000 years belong to the Anglosphere.

>All of Trumps policies look good on the short term and disastrous on the long term.

It's quite the opposite, friend. Deporting illegal migrants is a short term pain, long term gain. So is building a wall (although in the short term it will generate quite a lot of construction jobs). When it's up, all that's there is maintenance costs. Tariffs on Mexico will temporarily hurt, but another competitor will step in or American companies will move elsewhere (possibly even back to the USA). That's a short term market readjustment.

The absolute worst long-term effect he will have is on climate change, but most of his other policies are short-term pain long-term gain. That's for a very simple reason: he isn't a politician. He doesn't care about political capital or becoming a lobbyist in Washington DC after he finishes his term(s). He can afford to push through short-term damage at the expense of political capital.

That's the allure of a non-politician, assuming that his domestic/foreign policies are truly cans that need to be stopped kicking down the road.

There's just one little problem. I think all the EU countries trade primarily with the other EU countries and not with America, so why would they sign up to this?

For some hypothetical bilateral trade deal with the US where Trump can strongarm them (see 20% tax on imports from Mexico)?
>>

>For some hypothetical bilateral trade deal with the US where Trump can strongarm them (see 20% tax on imports from Mexico)?

Unless you're sending us 400,000 illegal Slovak workers per year, I don't think you have to worry about us

But you are right that incentives need to exist in the first place for any of this to even happen. That being said, Trump is clearly pivoting to Europe (even Russia) and not China and the Middle East anymore. Let's hope that the extra attention is positive, not negative
>>
>>70492168
No European country, not even Germany, would be an equal partner to the US or China. That's exactly why we have the EU. UK is soon going to realise this.

We can't trade with anyone else on this level given our location. Trump's America is too unpredictable.

this, the EU was Europes last chance at relevance, now they will be nothing more but a bunch of petty states divided into spheres of influence
>>
>>70491062

It was about the same old same; preventing Europe from standing on its own feet and then proceed to jew the fuck out of everyone, so Britannia rules the seas again.

It doesn't really matter if they have to become the semen slurping whore of other world powers and fill their country with africans and pakis (which already is far more than any other Euro country XD) as long as they *believe* they have a shot at cucking Europe.
