So does on every other social media.
And at the end of the day so does in "real" life.
Friends isn't some sort of infinite relationship so is every other kind of relationship.
And regarding the wasted time... You could ask yourself what isn't wasted time. Socializing by itself is wasted time. The difference is that you yourself would enjoy talking to other people personally rather than talking to random anons on the internet.
So it's not about being productive or not. It's not about socializing or not. It's about you not enjoying what you have or not utilizing your capabilities to achieve your goals.

The point is that in these thousands of hours I could have earned a lot of money or gotten good at a skill. But now I have nothing to show for it.

If someone asked me "what did you spend thousands of hours on? What have you accomplished?"

All I would be able to say is I spent money getting mad on an anime imageforum of outcasts of society

Every human being does that though.
Humans require and seek stimulation of some kind and socializing is one of them.
What you wrote here could say every other person in your age ( you shouldn't be older than 30 or at least I believe so ).
You live your life knowing you won't accomplish a thing. That or you are willing to put aside stimulation and "replace" it with discipline and dedication.
