Hard to answer briefly but china and Russia's reforms during the 80s were quite different. Deng Xiaoping allowed markets and private investment but heavily under the thumb of the state and had an absolutely massive labor force from the farms ready to make cheap shit for the world. Russia I don't know as much about but things seemed at least stable until the last gorbi years and the yeltsin administration

Everyone uses iPhones in Japan anyway, and outside Galaxy is the main alternative. Experia and Aquis may be nice phones but they came late in the game adapting straight from the competition. There is some self driving tech in Japan recently, but it is "dumb" technology that just uses a few cameras.
